Project Description
The last couple of years have seen a massive revival of interest in DIY crafts and Hobbys. Hacking ad programming has become it’s own art form and the oprotunity to learn and meet other individuals who share an interest in the technological arts have become numerous. If you live in a big City.
If you live in a small town or village you might not be as lucky. Unless the HackBus drops in.
The HackBus is a mobile hacking, d.i.y medialab, and workshop machine, taking artists in residence from Viennese art projects, local teachers and talents out to the people. Working together with established groups like monochrom, metalab, Screenkids and members of the Austrian art scene the HackBus wil be able to offer a wide variety of short courses and workshops.
Wether it’s learning the basics of soldering for electronic hobby kits, creating animated shorts, making mind machines, exploring the joys of the Arduino, experimenting with audio productions or learning all you need to know to produce podcasts the HackBus will bring the knowledge to you.
Some of the potential tours include:
- Soldering 101: Learn the basics of soldering while constructing a TV B Gone.
- Iintroduction to Electronics: No theory here!* Just instantly useful and very simple circuits. Learn about motors, light bulbs, resistors, switches, buttons, solenoids, batteries, breadboards, transistors, power supplies and more. Safety will also be covered. The student will leave the class with a kit of useful parts for experimentation at home.
- Podcasting: Everything you need to know to get your first show up and running for podcasting around Austria. From basic show concepts, moderation, radio journalism and media law to digital editing and recording.
- An entire series of video projects are planned with the media professionals and teachers of http://www.Screenkids.tv
- Including small screen videos: Cellphones as cinmetic devices
- STOP!Motion: Instant animation with whatever you can find
- Video Editing is Easy: An intor to basic video editing techniques
- It’s Magic.Not.: Special effects made simple.
- Found Fashion: Cut and paste and sew your way into personalized fashion with the clothes you already have
- Eye in the Skye: Arial surveillance for the rest of us with homemade kites and the cams that you have
- Circuit Bending: Breathe new life back tinto you forgotten toys with a little solder, hot glue and love you can turn your electronic toys into exciting new musical instruments
Einreichender
David Dempsey is a media producer, journalist, teacher and D.I.Y. fan from Minneapolis. Currently employed as a journalist and moderator for ORF and as Program Director and Teacher for Campus Radio Fh St. Pölten he is a long term practioner of D.I.Y. media and guerilla arts. He has been working in media since publishing his first fanzine at the age of 14, and has worked at a professional level in all forms of media, working as camera man, editor, animator, writer, actor photographer, teacher and designer for both local and international companies.
He did art and production design and nmotion graphics for the Austrian Webfree.tv, worked as Creative Director for the international Internet company Framfab, and is currently workin for the ORF and the FH St. Pölten.
