Kurzbeschreibung des Projekts

Mathare ist der größte Slum in Kenia mit rund 700 000 Einwohnern.  In Mathare sterben die Menschen wie die Fliegen an AIDS, Dreck, Elend.  Die Medien Fotografie, Film/Video stellen die einzige Form der lokalen Geschichtsschreibung dar. Slum-TV will genau dort ansetzten. Als einziges Projekt welches auch als "oral history" projekt verstanden werden kann.  Slum-Tv will das Leben der Menschen im Slum dokumentieren und damit aufwerten.  Eine Kamera bedeutet immer auch Aufmerksamkeit.  Unsere Partner aus dem Slum filmen und dokumentieren das Leben in Mathare.  Die kleinen Dokus werden dann wie eine Wochenschau auf öffentlichen Plätzen in Mathare gezeigt. In Mathare gibt es eine vielzahl selbstgegründeter Kinos. Dort werden meistens amerikanische und afrikanische Filme gezeigt und europäischer Fussball. Analog zu den österreichischen Wochenschauen, am Beginn des Fernsehzeitalters, wollen unsere Partner, ihre Beiträge in diesen Kinos zeigen, und auch einen kleinen Unkostenbeitrag einheben, um Videobänder und anderes Gebrauchsmaterial zu finanzieren.  Kopien der Videos werden nach Wien geschickt um sie hier zu vertreiben.

Derzeitiger Stand:

Der erste Workshop wurde erfolgreich durchgeführt, es gab 3 öffentliche Screenings, und es wurden 2 Stunden Material produziert. Es wird laufend an neuen Wochenschauen und SitComs gearbeitet.

Im Web werden die präsentierten Folgen dokumentiert.

Gemeinsam mit Jaume Nualart, wird an subvideo gearbeitet, welches erlaubt, online den Videos im Archiv Untertitel oder andere Objekte hinzuzufügen, und somit die Reichtweite des Projektes und die Verständlichkeit erhöht.

Nach der Entwicklung, wird die Software in Nairobi präsentiert und im Rahmen eines Workshops den Jugendlichen näher gebracht.

Subvideo is an online software that allows people to add subtitles or images, make timed comments, transciptions, translations, lectorings to "any" existing online video. Subvideo, in the first version, adds text, images and mashups from internet to videos.

Subvideo is free software and the first version is planned to be launch in the beginning of 2008. Currently the applicaction is 50% ready. This is the moment to be able to invite people participating in the code, the accessibility and the whole concept.

A tool for internationalization

Subvideo is a tools for internationalization of contents. Main applicaction of the application will be the translations of videos with social contents that can be translated in any language and, in consequece, easilly worldwide shared.

Adding timed-text to videos, videos become sensitive. And machines can give you results like, for example, show me where in the videos is the word "peace" present. And then the user will be able to browse the videos in the points where the query is present.

This is a feature that can be considered revolucionay for the new generation online videos, so-called video 2.0

- Kind of subvideos:

The media that the user can add to the video can be: text, images and online mashups

- Text: transcriptions, translations, opinion, comments, contents extension, cross contents, etc.

- Images: related images, diagrams, draws and comics, landscapes

- Online mashups: related content to the text in the subtitles usng the APIs of popular public data containers like wikipedia, flickr, dict.org, delicious, digg, etc. And headlines from online feeds (RSS, ATOM,...)

SUBVIDEO: CURRENT DEVELOPEMENT STATUS (about 40%)

Subvideo is currently in the coding phase. It is done a 50% of the first version. Subvideo had no any external help or support. And Netznetz is the first application to get foundings to be able to invite other specialists to participate in the project

- THE COMBINATION OF SUBVIDEO AND SLUMTV

The SlumTV projects is the perfect platfform to try out the use of the subvideo tool as a way to spread it out the video works produced for the SlumTV team in Nairobi and the next SlumTV local communities, currently in developement.
